- Friday Morning Investment Forum
George Mason University’s OLLI invites you to the weekly Friday morning Investment Forum, held at 21641 Ridgetop Circle in Sterling (between the Olive Garden and Costco). Time: 10:30 – 12. Free, you don’t need to be a member. Just drop in to classroom 232. Those already in the Forum are from Leisure World, Falcons Landing, and the Sterling-Herndon-Reston area.
Topics typically discussed include:
How to pick a “good” mutual fund.
Is our model portfolio going up or down?
Asset allocation for retirees.
Sharing experiences and concerns.
We use the classroom computer to check up on investment matters in real time.

Forum Members and Friends,
At our meeting on Friday, March 16 at 10:30, we have a special guest from the Forum in Fairfax. He is Ed Swoboda, a sparkplug of the group for many years. His topic will be the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), very timely at this season. Please come; you may still bring a friend. As always, this activity is free.
If you are following our model portfolio, remember that we decided to sell our shares of Mills Corporation (Potomac Mills and others). It is the object of a friendly takeover by Simon Property Group (NYSE:SPG). Accordingly, as of March 9 we have about $1,200 in SPG stock. This company owns a number of Premium Outlet Malls, including our own Leesburg Corner.
Optional homework:
(1) Did SPG drop yesterday as the Dow lost 247 points?
(2) Go to the internet and find out how much we have received in dividends lately for the 15 stocks in our model portfolio.
